Tools and support beyond the basics
Having the right tools and supplies can go a long way to supporting your education. Below are some resources that may be helpful. We offer resources such as loaner laptops and additional technology and education supports, transportation, health and medical as well as clothing.
Technology
UNH is committed to helping students who are managing extenuating financial circumstances and need access to the technical resources required to learn and study.
Loaner Laptop Program
The Loaner Laptop Program helps undergraduate and graduate students who don't have the financial means to access or replace the technology needed to learn and study. Approved students receive a laptop for use during that semester.
Due to high demand, we're currently low on stock and running a waitlist for laptop requests. We apologize for the inconvenience.
To request a laptop, complete the Loaner Laptop Request Form.
Have a loaner laptop you're no longer using? Contact patty.mathison@unh.edu to arrange a return.
UNH Law students: a separate laptop program is offered through the Law School. Email the Office of the Assistant Dean for Students at lauren.berger@law.unh.edu.
Minimum qualifications:
- Currently enrolled as a degree-seeking student
- Verified as eligible for emergency funding by Financial Aid (completed a FAFSA, or no credit on their account)
- To keep the laptop for a future semester, you must reapply and be enrolled that semester
By borrowing a laptop, you agree to:
- Handle the laptop with the same care as your own, in compliance with the USNH Acceptable Use Policy and Endpoint Management Standard
- Return the laptop, charger, and sleeve to the Help Desk at Dimond Library, Room 341, 18 Library Way, Durham, by the last day of finals each semester (or sooner if no longer needed) — to the same campus where it was picked up
- Cover repair or replacement costs for damage or loss beyond normal wear and tear
- Report stolen equipment to campus police immediately
- Pay a $500 fine for failure to return equipment by the deadline (reversible if the equipment is later returned)

If your request is approved, Enterprise Technology & Services will reach out to you with instructions on scheduling an appointment to pick up your yubikey at the Help Desk in Diamond Library. Textbooks
Low-Cost Textbooks
Textbooks can be expensive. Renting textbooks is an affordable option, and you don't have to worry about spending a lot of money on a book you'll only use once. Many of these places give you the option to rent, buy, or purchase after renting. We do recommend purchasing books you'll really need long-term, like desk references or anthologies you may use for other classes — it's worth the investment for those.
Below is a list of textbook rental options included in toptenreviews.com's annual list of the top 10 best book rental sites:
Have a Kindle, iPad, Nook, or other eReader? Many of these vendors also offer eTextbooks. Other resources you can read on your device, Mac, or PC include:
